Non-Destructive Concrete & Masonry Testing
The James Vu-Con® Impact Echo System is a portable, high-performance non-destructive testing (NDT) instrument designed to evaluate the internal condition of concrete and masonry structures. Using proven Impact Echo technology, the system accurately measures concrete thickness and detects internal defects without damaging the structure.
Ideal for engineers, consultants, contractors, laboratories and asset owners, the Vu-Con® provides fast, reliable results in both field and laboratory environments.
Applications
The Vu-Con® System is suitable for a wide range of structural investigations, including:
- Concrete slab and wall thickness measurement
- Bridge deck inspections
- Tunnel and retaining wall assessments
- Detection of delaminations and debonding
- Identification of voids and honeycombing
- Crack location and defect investigation
- Masonry structure evaluation
- Concrete quality and uniformity assessment
Unlike many ultrasonic testing methods, Impact Echo measurements are not significantly affected by steel reinforcement, making the system highly effective for reinforced concrete structures.
How It Works
The Vu-Con® uses the Impact Echo method, where a small mechanical impact generates low-frequency stress waves that travel through the concrete or masonry. These waves reflect from internal features such as cracks, voids, delaminations and opposite surfaces.
A sensitive transducer records the returning signals, allowing the analyser to calculate material thickness and identify internal defects quickly and accurately.
