MIRA 3D PRO: Advanced 3D Ultrasound Tomographer

The MIRA 3D PRO is an enhanced version of the renowned MIRA Ultrasound Tomographer, designed for high-precision 3D imaging of internal defects in concrete elements. Utilising ultrasonic pitch-catch technology, this system employs an antenna array of active dry point contact (A-DPC) transducers that emit shear waves into the concrete, enabling deeper penetration for accurate defect detection.

Controlled wirelessly via a smartphone, the 4x8 transducer array captures data and generates 2D images of internal interfaces. These images can be compiled into a complete 3D reconstruction, viewable on the smartphone or exported to a PC using IntroView software for detailed analysis and reporting.

A key innovation of the MIRA 3D is its Full-Matrix-Capture (FMC) mode, which captures data from each transmitter-receiver combination in the antenna array, offering real-time, true 3D tomography for each measurement position.

Applications

  • Concrete thickness measurement
  • Detection of voids in grouted tendon ducts
  • Identification of poor-quality bonds in overlays and repairs
  • Detection of delamination
  • Detection of voids and honeycombing in concrete members
  • Assessment of voids behind tunnel linings and underground slabs
  • Capable of detecting steel reinforcement (though not its primary function)
  • For enhanced scan coverage, the active aperture can be extended by synchronising a second antenna array, creating the MIRA 3D PRO system.

Key Specifications
