Fully Automated Plastometer with Motorised Weight Loading

The MFI-500-AUTO is an advanced computerised melt flow indexer featuring motorised automatic weight application. Designed for high-throughput laboratories, this instrument maximises reproducibility while minimising operator intervention—delivering consistent, reliable results test after test.

Overview

Melt flow index measurement is essential for characterising thermoplastic materials, particularly when reliability, precision, and repeatability are critical. The MFI-500-AUTO elevates standard melt flow testing by automating the weight loading process, eliminating a key source of operator variability.

Program your test parameters and the instrument automatically applies the correct load. This motorised system reduces handling time, increases throughput, and ensures consistent weight placement across every test cycle—making the MFI-500-AUTO the ideal choice for demanding QC environments.

Key Features

Motorized Automatic Weight Loading

The defining feature of the MFI-500-AUTO. The motorised system automatically applies test weights according to programmed parameters, reducing operator dependency and maximizing test-to-test consistency.

Dual-Method Testing

Supports both Method A (gravimetric) and Method B (volumetric) per ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133. Full compliance with international standards in one automated platform.

Computerised Operation

Integrated Mini PC with dedicated Melt Flow Index software manages test programming, automated weight application, timing, data acquisition, and results calculation.

Precision Temperature Control

PID-regulated heating maintains barrel temperature within ±0.1°C across a range up to 325°C, ensuring consistent test conditions for the full spectrum of thermoplastic materials.

Automatic Sample Cutting

Programmable cutting cycles with adjustable time intervals and cut counts. Combined with automatic weight loading, this enables true semi-automated operation.

Optimised Weight Set

Seven chrome-polished weights configured for automatic loading: 0.15, 0.875, 0.96, 1.2, 1.64, 5.0, and 11.6 kg. Combine all weights plus the 0.175 kg piston weight to achieve 21.6 kg for high-load testing.

Corrosion-Ready Construction

Engineered to handle aggressive polymers like PVC without compromising barrel integrity or measurement accuracy.

Digital Stopwatch

Built-in timer with 9999-second range supports precise timing for all test protocols.

Data Connectivity

RS-232 output with USB converter enables seamless data export for SPC integration, reporting, and archival.

Why Choose Automated Weight Loading?

Manual weight placement introduces subtle variations—different positioning, timing delays, handling inconsistencies. Over hundreds of tests, these small differences accumulate into measurable variability.

The MFI-500-AUTO's motorised system applies weights identically every time, delivering the consistency that rigorous quality control demands. For laboratories running high test volumes or operating under strict reproducibility requirements, automation isn't a luxury—it's a practical necessity.
