Benefits Over Standard Pendulum Testers
The Intelligent Pendulum offers several advantages compared with conventional analogue models:
Increased Accuracy
The OLED display removes interpretation uncertainty and eliminates parallax errors associated with reading analogue scales.
Faster Testing
Automated data capture and report generation significantly reduce testing and reporting time.
Improved Traceability
All results are digitally stored and linked to site-specific information, creating a comprehensive audit trail.
User Guidance
Built-in instructions guide operators through each step of the testing process, helping ensure consistent testing procedures.
Enhanced Data Management
Historical results can be accessed at any time, making trend analysis and compliance reporting easier.
Standards Compliance
The Intelligent Pendulum is fully compliant with the same international standards as the traditional Pendulum Skid Resistance Tester and is suitable for testing floor surfaces, pavements, road materials and other pedestrian areas.
Optional certification by the British Standards Institution (BSI) is available upon request.
Standard Accessories Included
Each Intelligent Pendulum is supplied complete with:
- Perspex Setting Gauge
- Tools Wallet

Transport & Storage Options
Flight Case (Recommended)
A purpose-built protective flight case with multi-directional wheels is available for customers who regularly transport the instrument between sites.
The flight case helps protect the instrument from damage and minimises the risk of de-calibration during transportation.
Transit Box
Instruments supplied without a flight case are shipped in a fitted foam-lined export carton that provides protection during delivery but is not intended for routine transport.
How the Intelligent Pendulum Works
The Intelligent Pendulum operates using the internationally recognised Izod Pendulum Principle.
A pendulum arm fitted with a standardised rubber slider swings across the test surface at a controlled velocity. The friction generated between the slider and the test surface reduces the pendulum's energy.
This loss of energy is measured and displayed as the Pendulum Test Value (PTV), which directly relates to the surface's coefficient of friction.
Higher PTV values indicate greater slip resistance, while lower values may indicate a higher risk of slipping.
Results are displayed digitally and can also be verified against the engraved scale.
Independent Validation
Testing conducted by the UK Health & Safety Laboratory (HSL) confirmed that the Intelligent Pendulum delivers reproducible results comparable to the traditional Pendulum Tester.
The study also highlighted several advantages, including:
- Elimination of parallax reading errors
- Improved user guidance through on-screen prompts
- Automatic digital recording of results
- Enhanced traceability through Bluetooth data transfer
- Removal of handwritten data recording requirements
