GWT Portable Water Permeability Tester

The GWT Portable System is designed for on-site or laboratory evaluation of water permeation in skin-concrete and other similar materials. This easy-to-use instrument provides accurate measurement of how water penetrates into a surface under controlled pressure, making it an essential tool for assessing durability, waterproofing performance, and structural integrity.

How It Works

A watertight pressure chamber, secured to the test surface by either anchored clamping pliers or a suction plate, is filled with water. Pressure is applied using the chamber’s top cap until the desired value is displayed on the gauge.

As water permeates into the concrete or test material, a micrometer gauge-controlled piston maintains constant pressure by compensating for the water volume absorbed. The piston movement, recorded over time, provides a measurement in µm/s, which is used to characterize the water permeability of the surface.

Applications

The GWT system is ideal for:

  • Measuring water permeation in finished concrete structures

  • Evaluating masonry panels

  • Testing watertightness of construction joints and sealed control joints

  • Assessing the effectiveness of waterproofing admixtures, additives, membranes, coatings, or surface-applied compounds

  • Approximating the coefficient of water permeability in concrete and other porous materials
