GalvaPulse is a portable and handheld device that evaluates the corrosion rate of reinforcement using the galvanostatic pulse technique. This innovative method involves applying a current pulse to the reinforcement from a counter silver chloride reference electrode (Ag/AgCl) positioned on the concrete surface.
The device polarises the reinforcement in the anodic direction compared to its free corrosion potential, Ecorr. The resulting change in the electrochemical potential is recorded over time. By utilising curve fitting techniques, the polarisation resistance of the reinforcement is calculated, and the corrosion rate is estimated using the Stern-Geary equation and Faraday's law.
