The ERE-Probe is an embeddable, half-cell reference electrode designed for accurate, long-term monitoring of corrosion activity in steel reinforcement embedded in concrete. Utilising a stable manganese dioxide composition, the ERE-Probe effectively measures the half-cell potential of steel reinforcement without inducing corrosion or altering the natural potential.

Installation Options for New and Existing Structures

  • New Structures: The ERE-Probe can be easily strapped to reinforcement with plastic ties before concrete placement.
  • Existing Structures: A hole is drilled to the desired depth, and the ERE-Probe is embedded in a suitable cementitious mortar.

Key Applications

  • Monitoring corrosion-prone areas, such as construction joints, splash zones in marine structures, bridge decks, and column bases exposed to chlorides.
  • Tracking the effectiveness of cathodic protection systems.
  • Observing the advancement of depassivation fronts caused by chloride penetration or carbonation, particularly when used with the CorroWatch system.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: Diameter ≈ 18 mm; Length ≈ 85 mm (without protective cap)
  • Potential: +205 ± 20 mV in saturated Ca(OH)₂ at 23°C vs Ag/AgCl electrode*
  • Internal Resistance: < 5,000 Ohm in saturated Ca(OH)₂ at 23°C
  • Stability: Variation ±5 mV from initial value in identical conditions
  • Operating Temperature: 0 to +40°C (Readings recover after frost/thaw cycles)
  • Service Life: Exceeds 30 years

The ERE-Probe provides reliable and precise corrosion monitoring for concrete structures, ensuring the longevity and durability of steel reinforcement across a range of challenging environments.
