High-Precision Impact Testing for Plastics, Composites and Advanced Materials
The Ray-Ran Advanced Pendulum Impact System is a versatile, microprocessor-controlled impact testing solution designed to determine the energy required to break or rupture a wide range of materials including plastics, polymers, composites, ceramics and finished components.
Supporting Izod, Charpy, Tension Impact, Pipe, Component and Puncture Impact testing, the system provides accurate and repeatable impact performance data for research, product development and quality control applications.
Compliant with major international standards including ISO 180, ISO 179, ASTM D256 and ASTM D6110, the Ray-Ran Pendulum Impact System offers variable hammer energies from 0.5 J up to 50 J, making it suitable for testing a wide variety of materials and applications.
Advanced Pendulum Impact Testing Technology
The Ray-Ran Advanced Pendulum Impact System uses precision microprocessor technology to measure impact energy with exceptional accuracy and repeatability.
Designed for ease of operation, the system combines intelligent software, automatic calibration functions and advanced measurement technology to help laboratories evaluate material toughness, durability and impact resistance.
Ideal for:
- Plastics manufacturers
- Automotive component suppliers
- Polymer developers
- Research institutions
- Universities
- Quality control laboratories
- Product development teams
Flexible Testing Capabilities
The Advanced Pendulum Impact System supports multiple impact testing methods, providing a single solution for a wide range of material evaluation requirements.
Izod Impact Testing
Designed for notched and un-notched specimens, the Izod configuration complies with:
- ASTM D256
- ASTM D4812
- ISO 180
Available hammer energies range from 0.5 J to 25 J.
Charpy Impact Testing
The Charpy configuration evaluates impact strength and toughness in accordance with:
- ISO 179
- ASTM D256
- ASTM D6110
The system also supports superseded standards including DIN 53453, DIN 53753 and BS 7413.
Hammer energies are available from 0.5 J to 50 J.
Tension Impact Testing
The system supports tensile impact testing in accordance with:
- ISO 8256 Method A
Hammer energies are available from 0.5 J to 50 J.
Pipe Impact Testing
The optional pipe fixture enables impact testing of pipe samples up to 25 mm diameter.
The system supports:
- ISO 7628
- ISO 9854
Pipe specimens are tested as horizontal beams under Charpy-style conditions to evaluate durability and impact resistance.
Component Impact Testing
The component testing configuration allows manufacturers to evaluate complete or partial finished components by measuring the energy required for failure.
By entering the critical cross-sectional area into the microprocessor, impact results can be calculated in kJ/m², providing valuable data for product validation and design optimisation.
Accurate Results and Data Analysis
Before each batch of testing, the system performs a simple calibration procedure to compensate for bearing resistance and windage.
After each impact test, results are displayed directly on the LCD screen, including:
- Impact energy (kJ/m)
- Impact strength (kJ/m²)
- Mean value
- Standard deviation
- Coefficient of variation
The supplied Ray-Ran Techni-Test™ software enables graphical and tabular analysis, reporting and data export.
Additional software features include:
- Test result storage and recall
- CSV export for Microsoft Excel
- Pass/fail limit setting
- Batch statistical analysis
- Quality control reporting
Precision Design and Operator Safety
The system features electronically controlled solenoid pendulum release with audible pre-warning for safe and repeatable operation.
A high-resolution positional encoder, electronic levelling system and precision pendulum control ensure reliable measurement accuracy.
